Chief Justice Alfonse Owinyi-Dollo has reiterated the Judiciary’s determination to fortify Uganda’s justice system through enhanced recruitment, expanded court infrastructure, and the swift resolution of cases.

In his address at the Annual Judges Conference, Justice Dollo underlined the Judiciary’s pivotal role in fostering economic growth and national stability.

“We remain committed to recruiting the targeted manpower, building more courts across the country, and deploying judicial officers therein," CJ Dollo said.

"This will enable the speedy disposal of disputes and thus release a great deal of resources to the economy."

He underscored the significance of timely trials, acknowledging that delays within the judicial process can stall economic progress and diminish public trust.

According to the Chief Justice, the benefits of expeditious justice are profound, as faster case resolution can stimulate broader economic development.

Justice Dollo also called on judicial officers to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, fairness, and diligence.

“Serve with utmost humility and integrity and make upright decisions without fear, favour, malice, affection, or ill will. The people we serve should find peace and trust in your decisions,” he asserted.

In his remarks, Justice Dollo emphasized the importance of upholding the Code of Judicial Conduct and working to eliminate both actual and perceived corruption within the system.

“Refrain from acts that lead to public mistrust of the Judiciary as we strive to deliver justice for all,” he urged.

The Chief Justice further highlighted the Judiciary’s ongoing efforts to address persistent structural and functional challenges that have hindered service delivery.

He emphasized that a well-functioning judiciary is essential not only for governance but also for fostering investment and ensuring human rights protections.

Concluding his speech, Justice Dollo reiterated the Judiciary’s commitment to broadening access to justice.

He noted the expansion of new High Court Circuits and Magisterial areas across the country as part of efforts to ensure that justice is both accessible and affordable for all citizens.
